Bracelet, bangle and cuff sizing: measure for the construction

Choose wrist, hand or inner measurements by how the bracelet, bangle or cuff opens, then confirm the exact design’s fit with the seller.

In this article

Start with how the piece goes onto your wrist. A size choice is easier to discuss when you identify the opening, shape and measurements before choosing a number. Use the bracelet, bangle and cuff format guide if the description is unclear.

Choose the right starting measurement

Michael Hill distinguishes a bracelet that opens around the wrist from a rigid bangle that slips over the hand. Its bracelet method uses a comfortable strip around the wrist, marked and measured against a ruler. A slip-on bangle also needs room to pass over the hand. Michael Hill size guidance

Open cuffs and hinged bangles introduce different openings; some seller names overlap. Helzberg’s comparison includes both hinged bangles and blended cuff-bangle styles. Helzberg format comparison

Ask the seller to identify the fitting method for that construction. For a closed slip-on piece, request its inside dimensions and the seller’s hand-measurement procedure. For an open cuff, ask about the inner shape and gap. Keep wrist circumference, hand measurement and the item’s own dimensions on separate lines.

An opening bracelet goes around the wrist. A closed slip-on bangle must pass over the hand. An open cuff has inner dimensions and a gap to check.

Compare the usable space

Request the finished piece’s usable inner fit, fastening and any confirmed adjustment range. Ask what its advertised length includes. The answer should refer to the exact design, not a general allowance borrowed from a different bracelet family.

For a hypothetical comparison, imagine a chain bracelet and a closed bangle both described with the same length. That label does not settle which will fit you. Ask how each measurement was taken and how the piece is put on before treating them as equivalent choices.

Say how you want it to move

Describe your preference: a closer position, some movement down the wrist, or room beside another piece. If you can try it on, use ordinary movement to judge that preference. Do not force a rigid bangle over your hand or bend a cuff to make an uncertain fit work.

Indian bangle size labels should be checked against the seller’s exact stated dimensions. Request millimetres if a label’s meaning is unclear; do not interpret the punctuation by guesswork.

Finish with a short fitting record: construction, wearer’s measurement, item’s inner dimensions and the seller’s recommendation. Record what still needs an in-person check. The pre-wear inspection guide covers a fastening that behaves differently after purchase.
